Rail and the Coast: What the TEL's Bedok South Stage and East Coast Park Links Add for Households in This Part of Bedok

For a household thinking about the New Upper Changi Road project, referred to here as Bedok South, two public investments shape everyday life around it. One is the final stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), which includes Bedok South station. The other is a set of walking and cycling links toward East Coast Park. This guide sets out what each one adds for Bedok South TEL and East Coast Park access, using only published LTA, URA and HDB material. It gives no travel or walking times, because none has been published for this project.

What TEL Stage 5 adds

LTA lists TEL Stage 5 as two stations, Bedok South and Sungei Bedok, with an interchange to the Downtown Line at Sungei Bedok. Once complete, the TEL runs 32 stations over 43 km. For this part of Bedok, the stage adds three things:

A new station is more useful when there is something built around it. URA describes the Bayshore Drive land sale as a mixed-use site integrated with Bedok South MRT station, a bus interchange and retail space. HDB's Bayshore masterplan likewise describes an integrated development connected to the future Bedok South MRT station and a new bus interchange. That puts a new transport and retail node on the TEL. The existing East-West Line is also nearby at Bedok MRT station, which URA names in its release for the New Upper Changi Road site. So the area will be served by two rail lines.

What the East Coast Park links add

HDB's Bayshore masterplan sets out how the area will connect to the coast on foot and by bike:

• Cycling network. Cycling and walking paths through the Bayshore estate will join the network beyond Bedok, including the Round Island Route. HDB describes the Round Island Route as a continuous 150 km park connector.
• Central green corridor. A planned 15 km corridor will link East Coast Park to Changi Beach Park.
• Pedestrian paths from Bedok town. Existing drains leading into Bayshore from Upper East Coast Road will be converted into pedestrian paths, so that residents from the wider Bedok town can reach the new transport nodes.
• New parks. A 3-hectare central park and a linear park that keeps the old coastline's seawalls.

Together, these give households in this part of Bedok more continuous, car-free routes toward East Coast Park and along the coast than exist today. For drivers

The East Coast Parkway (ECP) and Pan Island Expressway (PIE) are both close by for trips that need a car. Where the development's access points will be depends on its site plan, which has not been published.

What to check once project plans appear

1. Measured routes. Look for a walking route from the development's gates to the nearest station entrances, shown on an approved site plan, before relying on any minute figure.
2. Cycling provision. Check bicycle parking and gate access, which decide how easily residents can use the new cycling paths.
3. Stack orientation. Unit direction and views are unknown until floor plans for this parcel are released. The floor plans page shows no layouts until then.
4. Dated sales documents. Price and preview details will appear on the price page and the showflat page only once material for this parcel is released.
