Bedok South and Sungei Bedok MRT Completion Date: What LTA Has Confirmed for TEL Stage 5
Short answer, as at 8 October 2026: Bedok South (TE30) and Sungei Bedok (TE31) are not open yet. They form Stage 5 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL5), and the two stations open together. LTA's latest published target is the second half of 2026. LTA has not yet announced an exact opening day.
Here is what LTA has said and when it said it. It then covers what the Sungei Bedok interchange will change for someone living at the New Upper Changi Road site this website tracks.
What LTA has said about the opening, in date order
| Date | LTA statement |
|---|---|
| 25 Jul 2025 | TEL5 is scheduled to open in the second half of 2026. |
| 4 Mar 2026 | At the Committee of Supply debate, LTA said it would open TEL5 and the Downtown Line 3 extension (DTL3e) this year. The three new stations under TEL5 and DTL3e were on track for the second half of 2026. |
| 28 Apr 2026 | LTA announced final systems integration tests before TEL5 and the DTL extension open in the second half of 2026. Trains would run the whole TEL from Woodlands North to Sungei Bedok. To make room for these tests, TEL and DTL services were shortened on weekends: 22 May to 4 Jul 2026 on the TEL, and 10 Jul to 5 Sep 2026 on the DTL. |
| LTA Annual Report 2025/26 | Bedok South and Sungei Bedok are listed with a "2H 2026 target opening". When TEL5 opens, the TEL will run from Woodlands North to Sungei Bedok. |
LTA's Thomson-East Coast Line page lists Stage 5 as two stations, Bedok South and Sungei Bedok, with an interchange to the Downtown Line at Sungei Bedok. Once Stage 5 opens, the line will have 32 stations over 43 km.
Is Sungei Bedok MRT open? How you will know the date
No. As at 8 October 2026, LTA's newsroom has no release giving an opening date or a public preview for TEL5. Until LTA publishes one, any specific day you see is a guess.
In recent stages, LTA named the date ahead of time:
- TEL Stage 4, which ends at Bayshore, the station one stop west of Bedok South: on 5 March 2024 LTA announced passenger service from 23 June 2024. A free preview ride was held on 21 June 2024.
- Circle Line Stage 6: on 14 May 2026 LTA announced a public preview on 4 July 2026 and passenger service from 12 July 2026.
Expect a similar LTA announcement for TEL5. Updates will follow when LTA publishes one.
What the Sungei Bedok interchange changes for a resident here
| Station | Line(s) | Status (LTA) |
|---|---|---|
| Bayshore (TE29) | TEL | Open since 23 Jun 2024 (TEL Stage 4) |
| Bedok South (TE30) | TEL | Target 2H 2026 (TEL Stage 5) |
| Sungei Bedok (TE31) | TEL and DTL interchange | Target 2H 2026 (TEL5 and DTL3e) |
| Xilin | DTL | Target 2H 2026 (DTL3e) |
Three things matter for a resident:
- A second line one stop away. Sungei Bedok is the next TEL station east of Bedok South, and it is also a Downtown Line station. LTA lists the two new DTL3e stations as Xilin and Sungei Bedok. LTA says they will give better access to Changi Business Park and Expo, and direct access to the CBD and city centre.
- Same opening window. TEL5 and DTL3e share the same second-half-2026 target, so both lines should reach Sungei Bedok in the same window. LTA has not yet confirmed whether they open on the same day.
- The airport extension comes later. LTA plans a 14 km TEL extension (TELe) from Sungei Bedok to a new TEL and Cross Island Line interchange at Changi Terminal 5 (working name). The TEL will then link to Tanah Merah, after the East-West Line stretch from Changi Airport to Tanah Merah, including Expo, is converted to TEL systems. LTA's annual report gives completion in the mid-2030s. That puts Bedok South on the line that will run to the airport, but not until the next decade.
What the station date does not tell you about the condo
The station timetable is separate from the development. URA awarded the New Upper Changi Road site on 4 September 2026 to United Venture Development (Daisy) Pte. Ltd. and CL Sapphire Pte. Ltd. The project name, prices, unit mix and completion date have not been released and are not yet announced. Contact us for the latest. The stations are targeted for 2026. The development's completion date has not been announced.
Distance is also unconfirmed. URA's 15 May 2026 release describes the site as located near Bedok MRT station on the East-West Line. No walking distance or walking time from the site to Bedok South or Sungei Bedok has been published. Check the approved site plan for gate positions before relying on any walking-time claim. The location page shows the parcel on a map.
When the developer releases sales material, prices will appear on the price page and layouts on the floor plans page. Preview arrangements will be on the showflat page.
